Welcome!

My name is Karen Glass and I am currently completing my undergraduate architecture thesis at Virginia Tech. I am passionate about design, faith, my community, leadership, and Virginia Tech.

This site is an online portfolio - a place to reflect on my college experience and share the impact my time in Blacksburg has had on me and others. I invite you to browse using the tabs above to learn about the leadership courses I have completed, some of my most defining moments and experiences while at Virginia Tech, as well as how my values and personality affect my leadership perspective.

As an architecture student, my desk in the design studio of Burchard Hall is my second home. I spend a lot of my time in studio working rigorously on the design of my thesis - a mountain retreat for an artist, writer, and musician that explores the concepts of movement and stillness as complementary, symbiotic elements of design. When I am not in studio, I enjoy hosting dinner parties with my roommate, shopping, volunteering, attending and worshipping at The River Church, studying the Bible (alone and with friends), and chatting on the phone with my older brother about recipes, workouts, our parents, and his dog.

To me, leadership is more than an authoritative position. It is an outlook and perspective of humility that empowers others not through force but through encouragement. I believe that a strong leader does not influence through coercion but rather through finding the strengths within others and fostering the growth of those strengths.
